Features of ABBs intrinsic safety solutions:

  • Flexibility
    Today, thanks to the FieldBarrier, you can directly connect up to 16 PROFIBUS PA or FOUNDATION Fieldbus-H1 field devices to just one segment coupler in the hazardous area. Each Field Barrier has 4 IS [EEx ia] connections and can be cascaded together with up to 4 Field Barriers.
  • Reduced costs
    The >FISCO< model (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept) allows quick planning and implementation for IS fieldbus segments.
    In the past, it was necessary to create time-consuming IS audit trails in order to obtain permission to operate plants in hazardous areas. Now, thanks to the use of the >FISCO< model, you can easily design and operate your PROFIBUS PA or FOUNDATION Fieldbus-H1 system in hazardous areas in no time at all.
  • Speed
    Fieldbus transmitter for quick signal transmission up to 1.5 MBaud with IS connection available.
    In some applications, it is vital that the responses for signals from hazardous areas are extremely quick. This problem can be solved either by using Remote IOs or by using field devices with an IS [EEx ib] PROFIBUS DP interface and transmission rates of up to 1.5 MBaud. One of the first on the market from ABB is the Flow Transmitter >FMT500-IG<.
  • Decentralization
    Remote IO systems for direct installation in Zone 1 / Div. 1 with IS connection and Zone 2 / Div. 2 available.
    Everyone is talking about decentralization. But in hazardous areas, too? Yes, with the Remote IO families from ABB.
    • >S800< (Zone 2 / Class 1, Div.2) and
    • >S900< (Zone 1 / Class 1, Div.1) via PROFIBUS DP.
    On the field side every system has a direct connection to IS (EEx ia) 2/4-conductor transmitter with or without using the HART protocol or binary IO signals. For the S900 something special is using; an IS (EEx ib) PROFIBUS DP connection via an explosion barrier directly into the hazardous area.
