Sensitive countries

In conducting its global operations, ABB is sensitive to and works to comply with the various trade regulations and restrictions enacted by countries around the world. ABB continually monitors legislative, political and social developments in all such countries. Below, we report on the status of our business, if any, in countries which are the subject of the most frequent stakeholder inquiries.

Status
IranIn November 2007, ABB decided not to seek new business opportunities in Iran but to honor existing contracts signed before then. In addition, at the same time, ABB completed the sale of ABB Lummus Global, divesting operations which accounted for a significant portion of ABB's business in the oil and gas sector in Iran. Since the end of 2007, ABB has continued to wind down its business in Iran and in May 2011, ABB decided to complete its exit from all business in the oil and gas sector in Iran by the end of September 2011. The company finalized its exit from the oil and gas business, as planned, by the end of September 2011. ABB is not involved in Iran's nuclear sector or in Iran's defence sector.

SudanAt the start of 2007, ABB stopped taking new orders for business in Sudan. ABB exited its remaining business activities in Sudan at the end of June 2009.
